About Gainesville, Virginia
Gainesville, Virginia is located just west of Manassas in the heart of Prince William County. Gainesville was once a stopping place for stagecoaches on the Fauquier & Alexandria Turnpike. In 1852, the Manassas Gap Railroad was extended to the area and it became known as Gainesville. The town served as a shipping center for grain, timber, and cattle and remained a major cattle shipping center into the early 1960s. In 1994, the groundbreaking for the town's first townhome community began -this marked the beginning of mass development for Gainesville.
